Vijaya Prabhakaran

V. Vijaya Prabhakaran (born 13 December 1990) is an Indian politician from the state of Tamil Nadu. He currently serves as the Youth Wing Secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). He is the eldest son of actor-politician Vijayakanth, founder of the DMDK, and Premalatha Vijayakanth, the party's General Secretary.

Early life and family

Vijaya Prabhakaran was born on 13 December 1990 into a prominent political and cinematic family in Tamil Nadu. His father, Vijayakanth, was a celebrated Tamil film actor and politician who founded the DMDK in 2005. Following Vijayakanth's death, his mother Premalatha Vijayakanth assumed a major leadership role in the party.

Political career

Vijaya Prabhakaran emerged as an active campaigner for the DMDK and gradually rose within the party ranks. He was later appointed as the Youth Wing Secretary of the party, becoming one of the prominent young leaders representing the DMDK in Tamil Nadu politics.

He has actively participated in election campaigns and public meetings across Tamil Nadu, especially in the southern districts of the state.

Electoral history

2024 Lok Sabha election

Vijaya Prabhakaran contested the 2024 Indian general election from the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency as a candidate of the DMDK. He was defeated by B. Manickam Tagore of the Indian National Congress.

2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election

In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, Vijaya Prabhakaran contested from the Virudhunagar Assembly constituency. He lost the election to Selvam P. of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
