English bhasa waala naam, Singapore, Malay sabd Singapura, "Lion-city" se aais hae, lekin ii hoe sake hae ki ii naam ke suruwaat isse bahut pahile ke hae.[1] Pura, Tamil Puram (புரம்) se aais hae jiske matlab city nai to metropolis hae.[2]
