Shuruati jeevan aur shiksha
[badlo | source ke badlo]Brajendranath Dey ne apni shiksha Hare School, Calcutta se shuru ki thi, fir Canning Collegiate School aur Canning College, Lucknow mein bhi padhai ki. School mein hamesha unka rank pehla hota tha aur unhone apne final exams mein pehle division mein rank kiya. Calcutta University ke Entrance exam mein unhone apne school se pehla sthal hasil kiya aur phir First Arts (F.A.) exam mein bhi pehle division mein chautha sthal paya. B.A. (Honours) mein unhone English mein shiksha li aur usmein pehle division mein chhatha sthal paya. Unhe apni M.A. ki pariksha jaldi dene ki anumati mili aur usmein unhone doosra sthal prapt kiya, jiske liye unhe Calcutta University ka silver medal bhi mila.
Baad mein, apne dada-uncle Peary Charan Sarkar aur pita ke guru Raja Dakshinaranjan Mukherjee ke salah par, Brajendranath Dey England gaye. Wahaan unhone University College, London mein Open Competitive Services exam diya, aur safal hokar 1873 mein Indian Civil Service join kiya, jahaan unhone 17th rank prapt ki, 35 safal candidates mein se jo 360 candidates mein se select huye the. Unka ICS ke liye selection pehli baar 8 Indian ke liye tha.
Unhone St. Mary Hall, Oxford mein ek saal tak Boden Sanskrit Scholarship par padhai ki thi, aur wahaan unhone Professor Max Mueller aur Mr. Ruslan ke lectures bhi attend kiye.

[badlo | source ke badlo]Brajendranath Dey ne apna pehla posting 1875 mein Arrah, Behar ke Assistant Magistrate aur Collector ke roop mein shuru kiya. Vahaan unhone kai jagah kaam kiya, jaise Darbhanga aur Dumrao ke zamindari shehron mein. Fir, unko Raniganj, Bengal mein bhi posting mili.
Unhone apne service ke dauran kai pramukh jagah mein kaam kiya aur unhone Khulna mein district magistrate aur collector ke roop mein bhi kaam kiya. Unhone Balasore, Malda aur Hooghly mein bhi apna karyabhar sambhala. Unhe Hooghly Municipal Corporation ke pehle Indian chairman hone ka samman bhi mila.

[badlo | source ke badlo]Brajendranath Dey ne apne service ke dauran Sanskrit aur Persian ke kai mahatvapurn granthon ko angrezi mein anudit kiya, jismein Kalidas ke "Vikramorvasi" aur "Manichudabadana" shamil hain. Unhone Tabaqat-i-Akbari ko bhi do volo mein anudit aur sampadit kiya.
Retirement ke baad, unhone Asiatic Society, Calcutta ke council mein vice-president ke roop mein kaam kiya.
Virasa
